Mario Pezzotti is a Professor in Plant Genetics. He is temporarily Vice-Rector for Research and Technology Transfer of University of Verona and President of the Italian Society of Agricultural Genetics. He is founder of the Verona University Spinoffs “Officina Biotecnologica” and “Diamante”.
He is life member of the Italian Georgofili Academy and the Academy of Agriculture, Science and Literature in Verona. He has been member of the National Committee for Bio-Security, Biotechnology and Life Science, Working Group Agricultural Biotechnology – Prime Minister Commission. Member of the Editorial Board of the Journals: Scientific Reports, Transgenic Research, Horticulture Research and BMC Biotechnology. He is Vice Chair of the Steering Committee of the International Grape Genome Program, Chair of the Gene Annotation Committee of the Grape Genome, Principal investigator and coordinator of national (PRIN, TELETHON, CNR) and international (FP6, FP7 e Horizon, COST) projects. He is scientific coordinator of “INVITE”, an MSCA COFUND project.
He has been keynote speaker, invited speaker, convener and organizer in a large variety of national and international conferences and workshops. In 2007 he participated in the Italian-French Consortium for the sequencing and deciphering of grapevine genome. Over the last ten years he has developed, together with his research group, modern knowledge and technologies for the analysis of gene expression and the application of “omic” sciences for the study of berry maturation biology, post-harvest withering and genotype-environment interaction of the vine. His research group has contributed towards the development of “Plant Molecular Farming” in Italy and Europe. Together with his research group he has published over a hundred scientific papers in international journals.
